Abolishing the Confidence Crisis: The Power of Self-Belief for Girls and Women
Confidence is not just a personality trait—it’s a critical foundation for success, resilience, and self-determination. Yet, too many girls are not equipped with the self-belief they need to navigate the world boldly. By the time they enter adulthood, the confidence gap has already taken root, leaving many women struggling with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and a lack of self-worth.
The Confidence Gap: Where It Begins
Research shows that girls start off just as confident as boys, but somewhere along the way, that confidence erodes. In middle school, many girls maintain a relatively healthy self-image. However, by high school, their self-esteem begins to decline, often due to societal expectations, gender biases, and the pressure to meet impossible standards.
This decline is not due to a lack of ability. In fact, studies confirm that girls perform just as well—if not better—academically than boys. The difference is in how they perceive themselves. While boys tend to overestimate their abilities, girls often underestimate theirs, even when they are just as capable.
The result? A self-fulfilling cycle where girls hesitate to speak up, take leadership roles, negotiate for what they deserve, and embrace challenges with confidence.
Girls Who Lack Confidence Become Women Who Lack Confidence
This isn’t just a childhood issue—it follows women into adulthood. A lack of confidence impacts career choices, financial decisions, relationships, and overall well-being. Women are more likely to experience self-doubt in professional settings, hesitate to pursue promotions, and second-guess their capabilities—even when they are fully qualified.
The societal messaging plays a role too. Many women have been conditioned to believe that they must shrink themselves, remain agreeable, and avoid being perceived as “too ambitious”. Meanwhile, men are encouraged to take risks, own their authority, and lead boldly.
If we don’t address the confidence crisis in girlhood, we are setting women up for a lifetime of playing small.
Rewriting the Narrative: Empowering Girls and Women to Win
Confidence is not something we are born with—it is built. And the good news? It’s never too late to reclaim it.
That’s why I’ve made it my mission to empower girls and women to step into their full worth. My books, Confident Queens, Fearless and Flourishing, and Worthy Woman, Wildly Winning, serve as guides to breaking free from self-doubt and embracing a life of boldness, purpose, and self-assurance.
✔ Confident Queens is designed to help young girls recognize their worth early, providing them with tools to build resilience, embrace their uniqueness, and develop self-efficacy before societal pressures take a toll.
✔ Fearless and Flourishing helps adolescent girls navigate the transition from childhood to young adulthood with confidence, courage, and a strong sense of self.
✔ Worthy Woman, Wildly Winning is for women ready to break free from limitations, own their greatness, and live life on their terms—without shrinking, settling, or second-guessing their abilities.
The Time to Act is Now
We can no longer afford to let confidence be a luxury that only a few girls and women possess. It is a necessity. When girls believe in themselves, they become women who lead, innovate, and inspire. They take up space unapologetically and thrive in every area of life—from business to relationships to personal fulfillment.
The confidence crisis ends with us. It starts with the books we read, the conversations we have, and the commitment to raising and becoming women who know their worth.
Let’s abolish the confidence gap and build a future where every girl and woman walks in her power. 🚀✨
